Network Vulnerability Scan:

2nd Sight Lab performs network security scans as part of our penetration testing services. A network security scan finds resources exposed to the internet that may be vulnerable to attack. By connecting to resources exposed to the internet, attackers can try to brute force passwords and use known or unknown vulnerabilities to attack the system.

We scan the resources from the external network to not only see if the systems are available to connect but also to try to determine if they are exposing risky services or vulnerabilties. A network scan can also help determine the type of system that is exposing the port in order to perform targeted attacks on that system.

When working in a cloud environment, we can leverage some of the APIs provided by the cloud platform to perform a deeper dive into all the attack paths that exist between systems in the cloud account and the internet and provide an evaluation of the risk. That information also helps us further attack systems if we find a way in via a vulnerable system, application, or misconfiguration.
